What is Portable Long Service Leave?
Portable Long Service Leave (PLSL) is a type of leave that you can take with you from employer to employer. This ensures that you don’t lose your hard earned extended time off just because you have moved employers over the course of your career.
Long service leave should not just be for those who are fortunate enough to work for a single employer for 10 years, your entitlement to accessing your long service leave is the law and for every trade in the construction industry.
If you are an apprentice learning a trade in the construction industry that is covered by the PLSL scheme, you are required to be registered with LeavePlus. Students in years 11 and 12 who are enrolled as school-based apprentices as part of their studies are also entitled to begin accruing PLSL.
While you’re an apprentice, LeavePlus won’t charge your employer a single cent. LeavePlus covers the full long service costs of the apprenticeships covered under the scheme.
