Since the 1980's women have represented just 2% of the Australian trade workforce. This statistic needs to change. If you’re a female apprentice or trainee or looking to get into an apprenticeship, there is help available.
Women Onsite
Women Onsite is a program that’s aim is to support Victorian women toward apprenticeships and traineeships in traditionally male dominated industries. The program takes an evidence- based approach and works in consultation with trades people, employers, academics, and government.
Participants of the program can join as a prospective apprentice or trainee or as an employer keen to recruit female apprentices or trainees. Find out more about the program or apply here.
BuildUp
BuildUp is a hotline service that aims to protect the rights of women doing apprenticeships in the building and construction industry. Women in these industries can call the BuildUp hotline between 9am-6pm if they have any questions or concerns in their workplace. You can also send an email to [email protected]. The BuildUp initiative is running for 2 months - concluding at the end of October 2023.
